50's day, joy school, and muffins

Nov 1st was James’ 50th day of school, and the kindergarteners celebrated by dressing up 50’s style. I put James in blue jeans, a white shirt, black shoes, and slicked back his hair with a bunch of hair-goop of coarse. They learned how to hula-hoop, listened to 50’s music, a bubble-gum bubble contest, and root-bear floats. It was a crazy day, the day after Halloween so all the kids were already going bonkers!

For Joyschool this week we learned about music and musical instruments. I filled the music room up with bongo drums, lap harp, guitar, maracas, xylophone, the piano, and just let them make noise for awhile. For craft we made some musical instruments, a little lap-harp type thing with rubber bands for strings, and a maraca by putting dry beans into a Chinese to-go box to shake around (and then decorate the box). We got on you tube, and watched performers on different instruments, letting them listen to the sound first, try to guess the instrument, and then let them see the video. At the very end I put on Fantasia for them while we were waiting for parents to come. It was fun!

musical instruments:

Their little backpacks: 3 girls, 3 boys.

We opened up the piano so they could see inside - very exciting!
